Louis Zitzmann Wristwatch, c. 1915-1918, (Unknown Swiss Maker)

This watch is marked "Nonesuch" on the face, with original crystal guard attached to a leather wristband. Impossible to open watch back for more detail without damaging the fragile leather wristband. Original postcards were sent from Mr. Zitzmann to family members during the war. This watch has a white enamel dial, with original luminous (Radium) Arabic numbers and blue steeled hands (probably not original). Fitted with an originally finished chrome crystal guard. This guard was patented by Frank Farr of Quebec, Canada, Sept 26th 1916.Loan courtesy of Mary Lou Grace.

We can see how the external “Watch Face Protector,” sometimes termed a “Shrapnel Guard” is held tightly on the watch glass by the leather straps.
